This governmental corporation sells properties that have failed to sell on the courthouse steps to satisfy unpaid taxes. Proceeds of any sale are applied to the costs of maintaining and selling the properties and to the operation of the Land Trust. Properties sold by Land Trust are no longer subject to a lien for property taxes. Certain other liens may remain attached to the property title.

Membership Information

The City of Independence became eligible to appoint a member to the Land Trust of Jackson County, Missouri, when Kansas City, Missouri formed a separate Land Trust, no longer participating in the Jackson County Land Trust. The City's representative is appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council.
