Palmer Center Activities and Events for OCTOBER 2023 

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Palmer Center at 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO is operated by the City of Independence and is dedicated to the mission of improving the overall health of adults 60+. Grief Recovery Workshop, Tuesday, 10/3, from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.

Learn coping skills for Grief as well as meet others who share your struggle. The Grief Recovery Workshop will run every Tuesday from Oct 3rd,– Nov 21st. This workshop is free for anyone seeking to share their experience with grief and wishes to learn valuable coping skills. Registration is required to attend, but there is no cost for any of the materials used. Call the Palmer Center to register at (816) 325-6200. 

Senior Information Fair, Wednesday, 10/4 at 9 a.m.

Helpful Information, Health Screenings, Door Prize Giveaways, Free Refreshments. At the Palmer Center, 218A N. Pleasant St., Independence, MO 64050. Call 816-325-6200 for more information. 

Harvester’s Box Pick-up Thursday, 10/12 at 12:45 pm. 

Palmer is teaming up with Harvester’s to provide Nutrition Boxes for those eligible. Fill out an application and you’ll receive a box of food every 2nd Thursday from the Palmer Center. 

Autumn Adventure Visit Miller’s Pecan Farm and Peter’s Apple Market, Thursday 10/12 Time: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.   

A delicious lunch is included (entrée: roasted chicken). Price: $78 

Cover to Cover Thursday, 10/19 at 2 p.m. 

Cover to Cover is a book club for adults 60+. Books are available from the Mid-Continent Public Library North Independence Branch. Book selection for October reading: Now is Not the Time to Panic by Kevin Wilson. Coordinator: Peggy Blumberg. 

Foster Dog Event Friday, 10/27 at 10:45 a.m.

Do you like dogs but not commitment? Fostering might be for you! Learn about fostering and see a playful pup. 

Halloween Extravaganza Tuesday, 10/31 at 10 a.m. 

Come for the candy, stay for the Spooky Animal Presentation by George Owens, trick-or-treaters, and a costume contest. 

November Events with October Registration Deadline: 

Atchison Kansas -All About Amelia, Wednesday, 11/8, from 8:15 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. 

Tour the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum, followed by an included lunch with your choice of a Rueben or Chicken Salad Sandwich with garden salad, chips, and a beverage. Drive by Earthworks, a one-acre portrait of Amelia Earhart, and the International Forest of Friendship. Our final stop will be the new Hanger Museum featuring Muriel, the world’s last remaining Lockheed Electra 10-E, an aircraft identical to the plane Earhart flew on her final flight. Deadline to pre-register: 10/4 Price: $94 

New Theatre - Catch Me If You Can, Wednesday, 11/29, from 10:15 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. 

Enjoy a wonderful lunch buffet followed by the comedy thriller Catch Me If You Can, starring Jim O’Heir. This entertaining “whodunit” will keep you guessing and laughing from start to finish. The seats for this show are on the left side of the theatre. Deadline to pre-register: 10/25 Price: $59
