Palmer Center Activities and Events for JULY 2023 

INDEPENDENCE, MO – The Palmer Center at 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO is operated by the City of Independence and is dedicated to the mission of improving the overall health of adults 60+. Fantastic Travels on Wednesday, 7/12 Time: 7:45 a.m. - 7 p.m. Price: $128

Our first stop will be Lambert’s Café for an included lunch, followed by a visit to the original Bass Pro Shop, a pioneer of destination retail, with time to explore on your own. Next, you will go to Fantastic Caverns for a ride-through tour of the cave where you will see centuries-old stalagmites, stalactites, and other beautiful and amazing formations. We will stop at Osceola Cheese, home of over 275 varieties of cheese, during the return trip to Independence. 

Health Screenings and Blood Pressure Checks: 

  • Monday, 7/3, from 10-11:15 a.m. By Cleveland University
  • Tuesday, 7/18, from 9:30-11:15 a.m. by VNA (also Blood Sugar Checks)
  • Thursday, 7/25, from 9:30-11:15 a.m. by the Research School of Nursing 

Ribbon Crafts on Monday, 7/3, at 10 a.m.

Join us for Patriotic Ribbon crafts, perfect for celebrating America’s Independence Day. 

Covid Vaccination Clinic on Thursday, 7/6, from 9:30 – 11:15 a.m. 

Are you due for a COVID Vaccination? Free vaccinations will be given by the Independence Health Department. 

Cat Fostering, Monday, 7/10, at 12:30 p.m.

Do you like cats but not the long-term commitments? The Independence Animal Shelter shares about fostering cats.

 Veteran’s Café on Thursday, 7/13, at 10:30 a.m. 

Join other Veterans and family members for coffee, pastries, conversation, and learning about veteran benefits. Co-Sponsored by Good Shepherd Hospice.

Project Linus Quilters on Friday, 7/14, from 12:30 - 4 p.m. 

Bring your sewing machine and basic supplies to sew for Project Linus quilts. Pre-cut fabric kits with fun patterns are provided. Great for both beginner and experienced quilters. There is no cost for the quilt kits, backing, or batting. The completed quilts are donated to children in need. Coordinator: Jodie Land 

Medicaid Caregiver Assessment on Tuesday, 7/18, at 12:15 p.m.

We are having a Medicaid Specialist coming in to help navigate Caregiving and funds. You or your loved one may be able to receive funds from Medicaid; stop by to find out. 

New Theatre - Dream Girls on Wednesday, 7/19 Time: 10:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Price: $59 

Enjoy a wonderful lunch buffet, followed by the hit show Dream Girls. This spectacular musical tells the rags-to-riches story of a 1960s Motown girl group and the triumphs and tribulations that come with fame and fortune. 

Ladies of the Vaile on Wednesday, 7/19, at 10:30 a.m.

You are invited to afternoon tea while listening to stories of the Ladies of the Vaile by guest speaker Wendy Shay.

Karaoke with Cleveland University on Friday, 7/21, at 10 a.m. 

Join us for fun singing karaoke with students from Cleveland University. Off key or no key, we all love karaoke!

August Event with July Deadline to Register

Under the Sea on Thursday, 8/17 Time: 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Price: $49 Deadline to pre-register: 7/10 Price: $49

Be transported into the amazing underwater world during a tour of the Sea Life Aquarium, where more than 5,000 sea creatures live. After the aquarium, visit The Hallmark Visitors Center to learn about Hallmark’s rich history and see how greeting cards are made. You will have time at Crown Center for lunch on your own and shopping before returning to Palmer Center.
