A silver laptop sits on a desk with a plant, a book, a phone, and glasses beside it. The screen shows the new City of Independence website.

The City of Independence has launched a new version of its website and has a new address to go with it: IndependenceMo.gov. The new site has been redesigned and rebuilt to better serve the needs of our community.

“We understand our website is one of the most important tools our residents, visitors, and stakeholders use on a daily basis,” Mayor Rory Rowland said. “We are excited to share this improved resource with you all and look forward to hearing from you as we continue to make it better.”

Improvements include:

  • Easier access to our most popular tasks and services
  • Clear paths to find the information you need with the new “I want to…” function
  • Improved search capabilities
  • A clean, modern design
  • And great images featuring the best of our community!

This site is the result of more than a year of work by a cross-departmental team. We collaborated closely with Interpersonal Frequency, an award-winning website design and development firm that works exclusively with public-sector clients. I.F. was able to use its unique tools to gather data about how people use our website and guide us to solutions that respond directly to these needs and requirements.

“We took information from our citizen web users, staff, and experts to create this beautiful new site,” Communications Manager Meg Lewis said. “We are excited to incorporate more images of our community throughout the site as we improve the overall user experience. We want our residents to know this is a living project and we will continue to take their feedback as we keep the content fresh and up-to-date.”

"In the digital age, a modern website is one of the most important technology resources we can share with our citizens,” Chief Information Officer Jason Newkirk said. “This moves our whole team forward for our community and brings yet another service into the modern era.”
